STATE COMPETITION SWIMSUIT
All contestants provide a one piece, bright red swimsuit. Swimsuit legs may be cut moderately high. Select a style that is in good taste without cut-outs or thong backs. NO BEADING, STONING OR CHAIN HIP BELTS. Metal connectors are acceptable. You may use a single rhinestone pin in the bust area to cover or close a hole……as in the royal swimsuit example below with the opening in the bust area. If you feel your selection may be questionable – email a photo of it to the pageant office and we will let you know. The pageant reserves the right to decline a contestant wearing a swimsuit they deem in poor taste. (See examples below)
Note About the Mrs. America Pageant: The MRS AMERICA PAGEANT provides swimsuits by Carol Wior for national swimsuit competition. In past years, all delegates have been provided a matching “Carol Wior” swimsuit and wrap. Carol Wior website: http://www.carolwiorinc.com/ The state delegates at MRS. AMERICA wear one piece swimsuits. The preliminary competition swimsuit could be a different color than the one provided for competition night.
ACCESSORIES
Silver/Rhinestone Earrings of your choice and strappy high heels in a flesh color or clear acrylic. Click the Shoe Category for photo examples.
FITNESS
Fitness takes time. If you plan to use a fitness trainer or have your own work-out routine – Start early!!!! Hang your swimsuit where you can see it every day and try it on every week. Motivate yourself!!
SWIMSUIT WRAPS
The Mrs. Alabama America Pageant will provide swimsuit wraps for contestants. Do not bring a swimsuit wrap or cover-up.
Hose
Hosiery is permitted but most contestants do not wear hose. Leg makeup is also acceptable. Remember – No baby oil on legs.
Bust Padding
Gel Pads may be used to enhance the bust. If you are small breasted two sets of pads will create a better effect of curves than one set of really large pads. Be careful not to over pad. Contour blush between your breasts will give the illusion of cleavage.
Swimsuit Adhesive
To keep the back of your swimsuit in place, we use a roll-on adhesive called “It Stays”. If you have problems finding it in your area you can purchase it at Pageant Registration for $20.00 CASH. It can be removed with water so bring moist baby wipes to remove the swimsuit adhesive before you put on your evening gown. NO SPRAY FIRM GRIP ADHESIVE IS PERMITTED.
Camel Toe
Camel toe is a bit personal and at the very least embarrassing, however this issue must be addressed. So, consider this a little tip that no one else will tell you. Get a skin tone fabric and hand stitch the fabric onto the inner lining of the bottom of your swimsuit. This way, nothing will show through. Or you can place an ultra thin panty liner at the front of the swimsuit bottom. Problem solved, no more camel toe!
Birthmarks, Bruises and Tan Lines
A product called “Dermablend” is the product most contestants use to cover bruises and tan lines. Choose a color that matches your tan. It is available in the makeup section of most major department store make-up counters. It is made to cover birthmarks, bruises and scars. It does an excellent job for pageants.
Baby Oil
Do NOT use Baby Oil on your legs. It makes your legs look larger and stains your swimsuit.
Tattoos
Should you feel your tattoo might be offensive, you may want to make sure it is covered by your swimwear, gown or even body makeup. Dermablend is also a temporary cover for a tattoo. (See Birthmarks, Bruises and Tan Lines above)
Body Piercings
If you are uncomfortable with your naval or body piercing, you may want to make sure your wardrobe covers it, remove the body jewelry totally or replace it with something smaller for pageant competition.
